This is a picture of the largest mine in the United States and maybe even the world. The property streches out for as far as the eye can see. It pit is over a mile across and some 800 feet deep. The big trucks working in the pit look like ants on a mound but as you can see in the pictures below they are really big.
These trucks are nearly as high as a three story building. A small house would fit in the bed.
The mines visitor center and museum is open to the public and is educational. The Borates that originate from here find there way into every aisle of your grocery store. There is a lot more to Borates than Boraxo.
In front of the visitors center was a mine ore sample pile. You are invited to look for borate minerals , such as borax, kernite and ulexite.
